If you are antique loverĀ there is nothing better than treasure hunting which includes exploring antiques malls in New Westminster, Cloverdale, Fort Langley and Vancouver.
Last weekend we found a few treasures which are already proudly decorating the Soigne art space. Check out the new steamer trunk; around 100 years old and perfect for craft fairs and displays. Soap trays in Soigne colors were quite a win. Old wooden boxes which are great for wall displays and shelves; and the star buy of the day - a metal flour salesman's case with 40 little glass jars, probably around 90 years old. Enjoy the pictures.
Idea to present your work
Saturday, October 24th, 2009
Craft fairs and winter markets are almost upon us. This year I planned to do something special for presenting my work. Since the theme at Soigne is love of antiques and vintage treasures I decided to use that idea for my presentation. I found a gorgeous antique mini portrait album. It is made from leather and embossed with intricate patterns. Each pages has a decorative frame for the picture and golden rims. It closes with brass clasps which have a thick layer of tourquoise patina due to oxidization over the years.
I printed some of my jewelry pieces in this smaller format and placed them in the album. A glossy finish is a nice contrast to the aged looking pages. Please take a look.
8X8 in Singer sewing machine made in 1922
Friday, September 18th, 2009
Browsing along main street I found little, shy looking Singer sewing machine made in 1922. What is unusual about it is its size. It is hard to believe that 8 x 8in can make into real sewing machine. It is not a toy but design for children. It says: "The Singer 20-10 Machine is a practical thread chain stitch sewing machine made especially for children. It is simple and safe to operate and will do real sewing on dolly's wardrobe, or even on repairs to the grown-ups' clothing and other household articles." What I particularly like about it is its gorgeous box which you can see on below pictures. It has particular old smell to it which makes it even more special.
Prefect location for Soigne workshops
Sunday, July 12th, 2009Treasured treasure…”wanted and desired”
Sunday, June 21st, 2009Last weekend together with my partner we went antique hunting down in Washington State. Among lots of little bibelots I found a gorgeous suitcase from around 1920. The suitcase together with Ms Bertha Silva traveled by boat in 1929-1930 through Mexico, Argentina, Chili, Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, Colombia, Panama and Bolivia.
Besides the suitcase we found a gorgeous leather belt which would have been used for an ammunition during the war. Please enjoy the pictures below.
